Bjørn-Åge and Nina Rones spends the summers in their camper van travelling around the alps with their mountain bikes. They use Trailguide extensively to plan their trips and rides.

How do you use Trailguide before and during a bike ride?

I use Trailguide a lot when planning trips. Especially to explore new unknown areas, and find exciting and nice trails.

I use the different map layers with trails and routes along the heatmap to get an idea of the popularity of mountain biking in different areas.

During a ride, especially in new areas, I use the heatmap layer a lot to verify that I am in the right place and on route. I also use the heatmap for alternate routes as I am not too fond of locking onto a GPS track and following it strictly.

Where have you ridden so far this summer?

Besides riding at home in Lørenskog and Oslo during the weekdays, we've had some trips to Nesbyen, Hemsedal, and Kaupanger.

When the summer holiday started we packed the camper full of bikes, spare parts and tools for a few weeks on the road.

We started with a few days in Denmark with great flow trails around Slettestrand and Silkeborg, before spending some days in Austria, around Saalbach and Kaprun.

Then over to Italy and a few days in the Dolomites and Cortina, in fantastic mountain areas. Now we are in Livigno.

Do you have a favorite area?

I have really come to love the Alps and big mountains. There are so many amazing trails, old mountain roads, and military roads that make the mountains accessible in a completely different way than what we have at home.

Combined with the endless supplies of trails, the entire Alps region has become a favorite area for me. Everything from France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy — each area has its own qualities.

However I am quite restless and rarely stay more than 2-3 days in the same place before I want to experience somewhere new.

Do you have any insider tips for more efficient use of Trailguide?

The heatmap, combined with the MTB map layer, has helped me find many great trails.

Do you have any favorite trails?

It is hard to mention favorite trails, but one of my go-to trails in my local area is trailguide.net/7516 - Flyt.

In Hemsedal, https://trailguide.net/5522 - Spanskestolen really great.

One of the nicest I ever rode. with amazing surroundings in the alps, is the Burz trail trailguide.net/1891 between Canazei and Arabba in the Dolomites. An area with a lot of great bike trails.
